The performer has a card selected from an examined and shuffled deck. The cards are freely chosen and there are no forces. The selected cards are shuffled back into the deck, and the deck is then placed in a small chest. Eerily the lid of the box rises, and the selected card rises up out of the box! 
 
This is a simple and easy to perform card rising effect. The box is self-contained and there are no strings, clockwork motors, or electronics. The magician controls the action of the card rise speed, start, and stop at all times. This classic effect was originated by Clint Riedel and manufactured by MAK Magic or perhaps even U. F. Grant.
