The performer explains that salvation comes only through Christ. And central to that message is that salvation is a gift from God that mankind cannot earn. It is a gift that God provides through Christ with no strings attached.
 
“The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) “For by grace are you saved through faith; and it's not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: not of works, so nobody can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
 
Two oriental looking sticks are displayed. They held in the hand as per the illustration. Each stick has a tassel hanging from it. One tassel has a long string that attaches to its stick, and the other tassel has a short string attached to its stick. The performer pulls the short string and tassel and the long string and tassel on the other stick goes up! Vice versa the trick is performed several times. Of course the audience surmises that the strings are just connected to each other at the base of the sticks hidden in the hand! However the sticks are separated to show there is no connection! With the sticks held apart, the sympathetic reaction continues! Pull the short tassel and the long one goes up, and vice-versa! Finally both strings are pulled down long. The magicain twists his ear as the "control knob," and both strings move back up into the sticks!
